The Freebie centers on Darren (Shepard) and Annie (Aselton), a young married couple with an enviable relationship built on love trust and communication. When a dinner party conversation leads to an honest discussion about the state of their love life, and when a sexy bikini photo shoot leads to crossword puzzles instead of sex, they begin to flirt with a way to spice things up. 一个可能开场就知道会幻灭的故事。男主身处十九世纪上半叶的巴黎，没有权力和家世，即使巴黎确实也给了青春的他昙花一现的名声与财富。电影改编自巴尔扎克的小说，剧本的节奏感很好，除了结尾有些仓促。多兰也在电影中饰演了一个角色，而且电影中的一些镜头也颇具舞台戏剧感，也颇具多兰的风格。

有这么扎实的原著打底不可能不好看的。但实在没什么电影感（女演员好可爱，身材也很可爱
-一本书很感人？那就说它故作感伤；
都不是好东西，唯一让人有点怜惜的是甜美的小可爱。
等到揭露大前提，就必须要面对这个创作本身的问题。不过整体上对老式西部故事的气质把控还是挺不错的。

前半部ascension sociale和肤浅的复仇令人反感，幻灭的下坡路开始后才显出一定深度。男女主演技不行，只能用毫无意义的大尺度裸戏来凑。最后才发现叙事者是Nathan. Marquise d'Espard的演员是个妙人。Lousteau选角也不错，不羁又市侩，大难临头也不忘戏谑。由旁白、画面和巴尔扎克撑起来的电影。关于评论界如何鸡蛋里挑骨头的那段讽刺不错。
