一个公证人拒绝说出他受托管理的巨额财产，受尽了纳粹残酷的精神折磨。故事用了很多闪回和交叉叙事的方式，描述了男主臆想的心理现象。那本在意外中获得的象棋一书，成了他唯一的精神支柱。后面下棋的场景用了快速闪回的镜头，表现了男主精神上已处于现实与虚幻的状态中，其精神世界已坍塌。男主演得非常好，尤其是内心戏。
轻松氛围和舒缓节奏冲淡了影片的黑色与重口。另，黄秋生招谁了。三星半。
