The story appears simple on the surface, but is revealed, especially after multiple viewings, as more multi-layered and textured than Cassavetes at his best. Ostensibly it concerns a 14-year old Catholic girl, Wynne (Agutter) growing up in this post-modern wasteland, who develops a crush on her much older adoptive brother (Marshall)- a crush which perversely deepens and grows into infatuation once she starts to believe he is the local sex killer. This is in itself an idea that makes you sit up and jolt, but as the narrative develops, it continues not necessarily along a linear path but in several confusing and fascinating directions: the family's history, (detailed effectively in chilling flashback during an improvised seance) is a chequered one, and has suffered at least one major relocation and upheaval in the last ten years. At the crux, however, it's the depiction of socialal changes that make I Start Counting so fascinating and elevate its language far beyond the confines of the standard horror film. The major subtext- that teenage girls were maturing more quickly than before, and developing full sexual and romantic appetites (even if in thought rather than deed) but were not possessed of enough discretion to make the right choices- was a step forward for a genre in which its young females had previously been portrayed as bimbo victims (Cover Girl Killer and The Night Caller spring to mind), but not one that all viewers would necessarily agree with. But most striking of all, and possibly the most enduring image which the viewer will take away with them, is of the masterful symbolism with which director Greene invests every shot. Every inch of the Kinch family's world- their house, their walls, their TV, Agutters underwear, bedroom furniture and toys, Sutcliffe's clothes, Marshalls van, the local Catholic church, their town centre, their record shop) - is painted a bright, scintillating white- a white which, by inference, is slowly becoming smudged and corrupted with the dirt of the outside world. White also symbolises, of course, purity and innocence (two qualities Catholic schoolgirls are supposed to hold dear), and it is into this world of innocence that the ever-present red bus (a symbol of violation and penetration), conducted by the lecherous yet similarly juvenile Simon Ward, makes regular journeys. The allegory is further expanded in one scene where Agutter believes she sees the Christ figure in church weeping blood: by the time we acknowledge it, its gone, but the seed has already been planted. Rarely in a genre production has the use of colour and background been so important or effective in creating a uniformity of mood. I Start Counting is as near-perfect an end to a decade as one could hope for, and exactly the kind of film people should be making now- which is, of course, exactly why they never will. 整体的感觉想到去年的《绿衣骑士》尤其是如坐针毡的时候 btw 一个自然年内还看了科恩的《麦克白》新旧两版《西区故事》还真是一年看四次莎翁 每次都没有新发现 名著改编太需要与时俱进了 在内核不变的情况下 再搞个古典叙事 真的没意思 翻不出花来就别碰这些了 真的莎翁都得求放过
真的有种育碧游戏英语配音的感觉。
以前我们看电影，是通过电影领略一种自己从未了解过的文化、生活体验，随着观影阅历的增加，以及电影俗套的泛滥，这个体验被无限制的削弱了，这部北欧人尽管在故事主线上依旧略显老套，但这少见的北欧口味绝对能唤醒观众的神经
能感觉到各种各样的哲学隐喻，比如肉体的价值，奇异的生长，新人类是否应该被接受，人的本质到底是什么，包括柯南伯格孜孜不倦的关于人对于性探索的边界。表演都很精彩，但柯南伯格大概是老了，有些戏谑反倒拍得没有那么震撼了。但柯南伯格eye fuck viggo，永不失败！

太可惜没有办法在影院中真正/正确地体验这部片子，是绝对有五星潜力的，艾格斯是少数几位不在乎任何艺术妥协的导演之一，他讲的不是一个现代人眼中的历史故事，而是一个古老的世界中一个现在的故事，构建了一个真正的异世界。
依旧是以异族风俗的「猎奇」来刺激观众日益饥渴的需求，在一种人造景观的夸张与「蜕化/退化」下，诸如此类终究会成为极端小圈子审美的盛宴。
镜头还是不错的，但整个长镜头下来，打架的人还没有我小区做核酸的人多。安雅这个角色发挥空间不大，感觉导演预算起来了之后反而不知道该怎么拍了，就一种左右逢源的无聊。结尾是什么鬼啊，真·火口的二人？
这是为当代人解压的电影，里面的角色都单纯得充满安全感。不会让你被人类的阴谋折腾得身心俱疲。那俩人决斗的地方好像穆斯塔法，有几个镜头E大也神似老王，好想叫他快点占领高地啊。
灾难电影。每一年总有这样充满古典与野性结合的第三者电影，人物塑造的狡黠性全部失败。唯一成功的是妮可基德曼赋予的那股子女性的渴望，要欲，要恶，要爱。男性在此场荒谬的退化论中扮演行尸走肉丑陋不堪的动物。维京系又不是什么值钱的东西，假阴沉的壮大。不亚于把《亚瑟王:斗兽争霸》和《海王》引进入局《麦克白的悲剧》，东拼西凑，就是你的《北欧人》啦！咱不是是什么史诗啦！
出乎意料地好看！叙事变得快准狠的同时仍然保留了导演一贯的凶暴邪性，民俗史学+怪力乱神也在投资升级下玩得更尽兴，可算是极少数把现代电影制作工艺运用得恰到好处的正面例子。Claes Bang帅炸

a story about a bunch of muscular nordic dudes with heavy English accents angrily hacking each other to death ( due to the lack of a one-child policy ). I don't feel much for those dudes with questionable mental stability, but I feel sorry for the horse who got its head chopped off for being at the wrong place at the wrong time. R.I.P horse.
念白风格非常莎士比亚，影院关灯的那一瞬间其实还有点尴尬的。故事主线剧情比较简单，挺套路的，更让我感兴趣的还是老皇后和新皇后的故事，其中隐忍与复仇比起男主应当有过之而无不及，可惜一共五个画面就带过了。构架上还是以画面与民俗元素填充了整部电影，不太符合我去电影院（找刺激/动脑子）的初衷。昏昏欲睡的最后半小时、啥都没看明白的男朋友、前座两个因为男主放屁大爆笑的本地老哥，总的来说，十几刀都有点浪费了。
艾格斯还是适合拍神神怪怪的东西，对于史诗明显力有不逮。
作者自我表达和作者自我沉迷是两个完全不同的事，我感觉导演明显分不太清楚。下次再有这么大笔钱，真的不如给我，我雇个导演拍闺蜜的北欧同人小说，保证比这个好看多了。@好莱坞
